We have written extensively about University of Michigan Athletic Director David Brandon, noting the extreme problems he brings to the table as he represents U-of-M to the world.

We named him "chUMp-of-the-Month" for his skywriting stunt back in September. Then we named him "chUMp-of-the-Year" mainly for his negligence in stopping any of the other bad stuff from going down around UM Athletics.

And in January, he was once again "chUMp-of-the-Month", for all of the reasons we listed since New Year's Day.

But some would discount our commentaries and observations on the grounds that we have "an agenda", and "axe to grind", and so on and so forth. In other words, the old AD HOMINEM fallacy of logical reasoning, the same thinking-mistake that results in the "blame the messenger" syndrome. (Sometimes this even extends to the "blame the victim" syndrome.)

But now we have found an excellent third-party article to make the point, perhaps better than we have tried to do it ourselves. This article was not written by an adversary, but by somebody that is more or less on the University of Michigan side of the fence.

You can find the same sentiments as those expressed in this article on comment threads, but they are few and far between. Most UM fans writing comments on articles are ignorant, in denial, or spinning the story so hard that it hardly resembles itself when they're done with it.

With that, we bring to you, the best article ever written on the current state of the University of Michigan (or at least the best from last week):

  1. Wow. That was a great article. For a minute, I thought it had to be SM82! I did post a comment on the article. Here is what I wrote:

I read many of the comments below and it seems that many are playing out the very thing the article describes. You get caught up in "the Michigan will be back" mantra. You play the past history of greatness card. I think both of those approaches, while accurate or valuable, the are not really the point of the article. The writer is pointing out that there are some real bad thinks happening in and around the program. There is a lack of accountability from top to bottom. It is becoming a circus, and as a Spartan, I know what that looks like first hand and it's painful. On the other hand, those cliche positions are, in fact, directly the point of the article. The more you continue those mantras, the you hide or twist the truth and the more you blind yourself and other loyal Michigan fans to what is really happening. It's more than some down years. There is something seriously wrong in Ann Arbor. The wins and loses are only symptom of the cause. Your program is not unified. There is no Michigan Difference and unfortunately, there is very little integrity.
