What happens when you keep winning games? You move up in the rankings.
That's what happened in the wake of the conference title clinched by the Michigan State Women's Basketball team last weekend, as the Spartans jumped back into the Top 20. Both polls have MSU at the #19 spot, the same ranking they had back in November.
The players who propelled their team to the fourth league championship in school history were then honored by the B1G, as a school-record five players were voted to "All-Conference" teams at one level or another:
- Freshman Aerial Powers was named to the First Team.
- Senior Analise Pickrel was named to the Second Team.
- Honorable Mention awards were given to Senior Klarissa Bell, Junior Becca Mills, and Freshman Tori Jankoska.
- Bell was also named to the "All-Defensive" Team.
No other conference school placed five players on the award list. (Powers was also named to the all-freshman team.)
The Spartans had a trophy-kissing, banner-raising, net-cutting party on Sunday night at the Breslin Center, and are now prepping for the league tournament that begins on Thursday afternoon. MSU draws a first-round bye, and will face the winner of the Indiana-Michigan game on Friday night. The 6:30 p.m. game will be televised by the Big Ten Network.
