Get ready for another rivalry game this Friday night, as I believe it's headed our way. I'm saying the Michigan women's basketball team will beat Indiana in the first round of the conference tournament on Thursday, setting up the re-match in round two.
This is not a big leap of faith, as UM is the #7-seed, and the Hoosiers are #10. I just watched Indiana at the Breslin Center on Sunday, and they do have some weapons, though many are young, and they were overwhelmed on Spartan Senior Night. They could certainly put up a fight.
Somewhat strange season for the Michigan women. They lost 80% of their total stat package with a large senior class, leaving a dim forecast for this year. But they were 11-4 when MSU played them in Ann Arbor, and three games later they were sitting at 4-1 in the conference, 13-5 overall. From that point forward, they lost seven of thirteen games. The 8-8 final league record is only a little bit better than may have been expected, and their 17-12 overall record is on the high end of what I thought they would be at this point. But they did have a good start.
Still, I think Michigan will beat Indiana in a high scoring game. They've got a spirited young coach who likes to show off her upper arm strength in game-day outfits, what more do they need?
