We've noticed a number of readers looking at our last Rivalry Update for women's basketball between Michigan State and Michigan, so we thought it was about time to give an "update to the Update"! There have been four games played between MSU and UM since our last update, and the teams have surprisingly SPLIT in the contests, 2-2, with the combined final scores only one point apart.
So this update will look better for the Lady Wolverines than any we're summarized to date on this web site. The teams have only one scheduled game this season, at Breslin on February 4.
The Spartans lead the all-time series 65-18, winning more than 70% of the games played in Ann Arbor, and more than 80% of the games played in East Lansing. We'll review the last 10 games between the two teams, and summarize the program results over the last five seasons.

The two victories by Michigan last year, taking advantage of an injury-plagued season that severely depleted the Michigan State roster, make the rivalry series appear closer than it's looked in more than a decade. We will compile a 25-game series summary before the teams meet in February to give a longer-range perspective on the series.
