Re: Michigan State QB Andrew Maxwell's leadership overcomes personal disappointment of benching in bowl game
Maxwell has not just lost his job. Has has invited many guests in to join the open house party for the competition though. Dantonio's plan A will be to use the competition to make everyone better - particularly his 5th year senior who will have all his receivers back and maybe a more consistent playing group protecting him. I believe any of the QBs Dantonio might select next fall will have a far far better year than Maxwell had in 2012 - and so will the team, even if its Maxwell again in 2013. Magically, Roushar will look better too. That's explained a few posts down...

Re: Michigan State QB Andrew Maxwell's leadership overcomes personal disappointment of benching in bowl game
Clearly there are issues on the offensive side, but to think it's all on Roushar shows limited vision. When the team has difficulty executing bread and butter plays leaving the team bad down and distance situations series after series, game after game - all season long, "creative playing calling" will not create sustained drives. When the whole thing is out of sync due to drops, misfires, a patch worked and ever changing O-line, bad routes, poor decisions, penalties, etc., play calling becomes a nightmare. Plays are supposed to build on each other, fulfilling a game plan over time. When it doesn't happen at all - for the reasons stated, it restricts options in the playbook because you are desperately trying to avoid ANOTHER bad down and distance situation. Rousher was just as much a victim of the offensive problems or probably more, than he was a cause.

Re: Michigan State football OC Dan Roushar designs plan around strengths of QB Andrew Maxwell
st3000 - Agreed, But if we lose 3 juniors to the NFL, that will really hurt the potential 2013 record - with them, their toughest game would be Ohio State in Indy at the Big 10 championship.

Mr. Griffith - That stats you had were fine. The article was not about Monty Ball or why Bell is the 2nd best back - whatever.

Re: Michigan State football receiver Keith Mumphery brings optimism, great potential, into Spartans' future
Heartbreak - I think the end result is the key. It's not all about the punishment, it's about learning and growing - correcting and developing. Based on the increased length of time between "occurrences" and the decrease in severity of each occurrence, it is hard to argue that Dantonio is not achieving the desired end result - a result that is getting to the point of being a standard to which other programs can aspire. Disagree with specific "punishments" if you'd like - the end result is that Dantonio has clearly been effective. I think the last semi-major issue was Chris Rucker. How would have benefited anyone if Rucker was booted? Rucker would not have been drafted by the NFL and MSU has had no further issues beyond some minor transgressions - And zero all season. What Dantonio did, worked - for everyone.

Exactly. There is no "Michigan Difference". What about football at MSU. How long has it been since a reported off field problem? Just would like to know.
M-live: Thanks for deleting the exchange that was posted here a few minutes ago. It was unnecessary and out of bounds and not the intent of my original message/question. Good work.

Re: Michigan State football receiver Keith Mumphery brings optimism, great potential, into Spartans' future
Mr. high school locker combo is a typical chUMp. The purpose of my question is to show that the method in which Dantonio has handled issues early in his time at MSU has lead to an extended period (which will no doubt be broken at some point) of no off-field problems and a program that is developing an excellent track record of off-field community service and minimal issues. Mr. locker combo has to reach back a several years to a night that most kids there would say was the worst choice they made as a team-member and one they had no idea would devolve into the mess it became (which was not as bad as the initial reports - but still bad, for everyone). My question is how long has it been since MSU footbal has had off-field problems?

I would like some input on the 3 guys suspended in Ann Arbor ( M-Live -http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2012/12/... ). I've been to a few media outlets and there is the typical Michigan, Ohio State and MSU comparisons and banter with some dumb statements on all sides. One fairly consistent theme chUMps (which is a label not deserving of all Michigan fans) post is that they have fewer problems and when they do have them, they address them more appropriately because they "are Michigan" and they have higher standards. This is where I could use some help. Does anyone know the last time there was a publicized off-field problem at Michigan State? Who was it and when did it happen? It seems like it was Max Bullough and another player on vacation last summer - under age drinking or something. Please confirm...

Re: Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio believes Spartans are inches from greatness
The defense did not need to be on the field in the end after 15 previous bailout operations in the same game(s). The staff never accepted the fact that this team could not run the ball when the opponent knew they needed to run the ball. The staff, therefore had no alternatives to the power run that could exploit a defense waiting for it and keep still the clock moving and/or the move the chains - effectively accomplishing the same thing. You could see the 3 and out happening before the 1st down snap and you could see ensuing defensive while the defense was still on the sidelines wishing for the first down the never came. With this team, the staff needed to be more committed to late game first downs than late game power runs.

Re: NFL Draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. discusses Michigan State football's Le'Veon Bell, Dion Sims, Will Gholston
If all or 2 of the 3 leave, I just hate the idea that we wasted their final season going 6-6 giving away the game to chUMps. Could you imagine this team if all are back? That would be one new starter on offense and two new starters on defense. Having just one new starter on on offense is huge for the major leap in productivity that continuity can bring and the D is already excellent. Add in a schedule that is very favorable to wind up in Indy... It will be nice to DUMP the chUMps again.

Re: Michigan State athletic director Mark Hollis knows football rep takes hit with poor bowl ticket sales
And MSU has like 600,000 people in a 30 mile radius of the stadium. The Pig House has about 2,000,000 surrounding the pit. MSU does just fine with loyalty, in fact among the best in the country when you really start breaking it down that way and tossing in level of success into the equation. It's time to DUMP the chUMps again in 2013. Then we can spend a year hearing about wins over the Chicago Cricket Club in the days of the covered wagon. http://spartanresource.blogspot.com/2012/08/video-...
