SPARTANS WIN SEASON BASKETBALL SERIES VERSUS WOLVERINES, 3-2

The Michigan State Basketball Programs once again won the season series with Michigan, winning three times in five games. The men's team swept UM by scores of 76-66 and 80-67, and the women's team won today by 20 points, after losing a pair to the Wolverines in the regular season.

The five-game total point-margin was +21 in favor of MSU.

SPARTAN WOMEN BLAST WOLVERINES 69-49 IN B1G CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

The Michigan State Women's Basketball team beat Michigan this afternoon, 69-49, knocking the Wolverines out of the B1G Conference Tournament. It's the third consecutive year that MSU has sent UM home from the league tourney.

The Spartans highly-improbable victory marks their 24th win in the last 28 games against Michigan. MSU Head Coach Suzy Merchant has now won 80% of her games versus UM, improving her record against them to 16-4.

Michigan State now leads the all-time series between the schools 65-18.

MICHIGAN COACH GOES WITH BARE-ARMS AND BARE-SHOULDERS LOOK FOR RIVALRY GAME

University of Michigan women's basketball coach Kim Barnes-Arico continues to make her unusual fashion statement on game day, by wearing a bare-arms outfit once again. The UM coach seems to enjoy showing off her biceps and triceps while coaching. It's very unusual for college basketball coaches to wear such a revealing outfit during games.

Imagine John Beilein wearing a tank-top during a game, and you get the idea. Perhaps Barnes-Arico will be performing arm-curls or maybe arm-wrestling after the game, who knows?

SPARTAN WOMEN JUMP ON WOLVERINES EARLY, TAKE 46-22 HALFTIME LEAD

The Michigan State Women's Basketball team exploded on Michigan during the first half of their conference tournament game this afternoon, taking a 46-22 lead to the locker room.

Tori Jankoska and Cara Miller each have two fouls at the break, but no other Spartans have more than a single foul. Aerial Powers has not been called for a foul.

Three players have two fouls each for Michigan, including two starters. The Wolverines have committed nine team fouls compared to six for MSU.

SPARTAN WOMEN TRY TO MAKE IT 24 WINS OUT OF LAST 28 GAMES AGAINST WOLVERINES

The Michigan State Women's Basketball team meets Michigan this afternoon in the B1G Conference tournament. The game tips-off at 12:30 p.m. and will be televised by the Big Ten Network.

The Spartans have beaten the Wolverines like a drum over the decades, holding a 64-18 all-time series lead. MSU has won 23 of the last 27 games against UM in women's basketball.

Michigan won both regular season games against Michigan State this year, and they are in position for an unprecedented three-game sweep. The Spartans have won four of their last five games to become eligible for the W.N.I.T. regardless of the outcome of today's game. The Wolverines probably must win in order to be considered for the NCAA Tournament.

WOLVERINE WOMEN TRY TO MAKE IT THREE IN A ROW OVER SPARTANS

The B1G Women's Basketball tournament is underway and Michigan meets Michigan State at 12:30 p.m. today on the Big Ten Network. The winner will face the #1-seeded Maryland Terrapins on Friday.

UM has had a charmed run against MSU, winning both games this year against the Spartans. If they can win this afternoon, it will be the first time in history that the Wolverines have won three games in one year against their rivals. It would also mark the first time that Michigan has knocked Michigan State out of the conference tournament. MSU has clipped UM in the league tourney on four previous occasions, including the last two seasons.

The Spartans are positioned for an N.I.T. bid with either outcome, the first season they have missed the NCAA Tournament under Suzy Merchant. The Wolverines are fighting to earn a bid to the Big Dance, and will likely need a win today in order to make it there.
